Questions parents ask
What age are StoryPals books for?+
Children aged 1 to 9. The book is written to one of four reading bands: toddler (1 to 2) with about 6 to 16 words a page, preschool (3 to 4) with 18 to 38, early reader (5 to 6) with 40 to 65, and confident reader (7 to 9) with 70 to 115. The printed font size changes with the band too.
Can my child appear in the illustrations?+
Yes. You can upload up to four photos and the hero will be drawn to resemble your child in the art style you chose. You can also skip photos and simply describe them in words, which works well. Photos are used only to generate your book's illustrations.
How does personalisation work beyond the name?+
The story is built around what your child is currently obsessed with, such as rockets, diggers or a favourite bear, and around a lesson you choose, such as being brave or sharing. Family members, friends and pets can be added as characters, and the hero's appearance stays consistent on every page.
Can I edit the story before printing?+
Every page can be edited. You can rewrite text by hand, ask for an AI rewrite with an instruction such as make it rhyme or add the dog, change a page's layout, redraw an illustration, restore an earlier version, reorder pages, add pages, and change the art style or colour palette for the whole book.
What does a printed StoryPals book cost?+
Writing, illustrating and reading the book on screen are free during preview. Printed books start at £14.99 for a stapled softcover (12 pages) and £34.99 for a hardcover (24 pages), plus delivery from £3.99. Every length we offer prints without filler pages.
Can I make a short book for nights when there is no time?+
Yes. Choose the quick story length and you get a complete story with a beginning, a wobble and a proper ending in about three minutes of reading aloud. Bedtime length is the usual ten to twelve pages, and big adventure goes up to twenty-four pages for children who want more.
What languages are available?+
Books can be written in English, Spanish or French. Every word inside the book follows the language you choose, including the title, dedication, page text and back cover.
How long does it take?+
The story is written in under a minute and illustrations take a few minutes for a full book, so you can read it on screen the same evening. Printed books are posted in 7 to 10 working days on standard delivery, or 2 to 3 with express.
Is a personalised book a good gift?+
It is one of the few gifts that cannot be duplicated, because it is built from what one particular child cares about right now. Books are commonly ordered for birthdays, new siblings, starting nursery or school, and as keepsakes from grandparents.
Why I made this
I am a single mum. Between the cooking, the working and the worrying about whether my son is getting enough of the right kind of attention, reading time is the ten minutes that never get negotiated away. It is his favourite part of the day and mine. It is also the calmest window I get to teach him anything.
He skips every page without a rocket on it. So I built the book that meets him exactly where he is, with him in it. And on the nights when there is nothing left in the tank, a three-minute version of it.
